Taking on PBMs: My Plan to Lower Drug Prices, Protect Local Pharmacies
Big Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs) are manipulating drug prices, driving up costs for Iowans, and forcing local pharmacies out of business. It’s time to stop their unfair practices. That’s why I introduced the Delinking Revenue from Unfair Gouging (DRUG) Act—a bipartisan solution to ensure PBMs are paid a flat fee, rather than profiting by inflating drug prices.
With over 80% of prescriptions controlled by just three PBMs, Americans are paying more while small, independent pharmacies struggle to survive. My bill puts patients first, increases transparency, and ensures PBMs no longer get rewarded for driving up costs.
Fox News recently covered our fight against PBMs, highlighting how their incentive structure drives up drug prices and puts local pharmacies at risk. Read more about it HERE.
Now, I want to hear from you:
Do you support efforts to rein in Big PBMs and lower drug prices?
Your voice is critical in this fight. Let me know what you think about my efforts to hold PBMs accountable.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mariannette Miller-Meeks
