Team — I voted NO. I did not support what Republicans called a “Continuing Resolution” because it’s not. It is a surrendering of the powers of Congress to the president and Elon Musk.
Musk does not have the power to make spending decisions, Congress does — the Constitution explicitly reserves the power of the purse to Congress. And this bill gives Trump, Musk, and Republicans six months to consolidate power in the executive and do some pretty awful things.
We’ve already seen what they’re willing to do to the Department of Education, veterans health care, cancer research, and more — and now, this literally gives them more license to destroy essential government functions and move large amounts of money around to punish certain states and cut funding to local communities.
There is so much bad policy baked into this. People will be hurt. Our nation's safety will be weakened.
Congress has a job to do. We swore an oath to uphold the Constitution — not to surrender Article One constitutional powers to Trump and Musk.
I don’t want them to have more power. I voted no.
Thank you,
Cory
