💼 New Report: The Gap 2025

Last week, The National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC) released its annual report, The Gap: A Shortage of Affordable Homes. This year’s report affirms that the trends we've been tracking in the Bay Area and California persist: There are simply not enough affordable homes for our friends, family, and neighbors. In California, there are only 24 affordable and available rental homes per 100 extremely low-income renter households.

There are solutions to this ongoing problem. The report urges Congress must act to solve this problem by expanding subsidies to build deeply affordable housing; strengthening programs that preserve existing affordable housing; and providing short-term rental assistance to help renters during times of unusual financial hardship. Without these actions, the affordable housing gap will continue to persist, leaving millions of people without safe and stable homes.
