This email discusses police brutality and murder. It is important and contains resources for you to support Black women-led groups doing critical reproductive justice work and building the political power of Black women, but we urge you to also take care of yourselves.
John—
It’s been nine days since police officers murdered George Floyd in Minneapolis. Nine days since millions of people started taking to the streets to demand justice for him, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and the lives of countless other Black people taken by racist violence.
Now is the time for change. Now is the time to demand accountability. Now is the time to channel our outrage into action, and to work toward a free and just society.
As a historically white organization, we recognize that it is not NARAL’s place to lead this fight, but instead to listen and follow the lead of Black organizers. It’s crucial — especially in this moment and after the smoke clears — that we uplift the leadership and the voices of Black women who have long been doing the work to fight for racial justice, reproductive justice, and structural reform.
So please, join us in splitting a donation of $15 between SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, In Our Own Voice: The National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, and Higher Heights for America to fund the critical work being done to achieve full reproductive justice and build the political power of Black women »
SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, led by Monica Simpson, strengthens and amplifies the collective voices of Indigenous women and women of color to achieve reproductive justice by eradicating reproductive oppression and securing human rights.
In Our Own Voice: The National Black Women’s Reproductive Justice Agenda, led by Marcela Howell, uplifts the voices of Black women at the national and regional level, focusing on abortion rights and access, contraceptive equity, and comprehensive sex education.
Higher Heights for America, led by Glynda Carr, is the only national organization providing Black women with a political home exclusively dedicated to expanding Black women’s elected representation, voting participation, and advancing progressive policies.
If you can, John, join us in supporting these Black women-led organizations by pitching in $15 so they can continue doing crucial work in this moment. 100% of your donation will go directly to these groups »
We’re committed to this work — because it’s the only way to create a truly just and free world for every body. There can be no reproductive freedom without freedom from tyranny and oppression.
In the coming days, we’ll keep sending you resources, actions, and opportunities to follow through on this commitment. We’re in this fight together. We’ll be there every step of the way. It won’t take a day or a week. It’s a lifelong commitment, and we hope you will make it with us.
In solidarity, The NARAL Pro-Choice America Team
