Schumer funded Trump and Musk in his CR reversal. He must step down.
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, Sen. Chuck Schumer voted to block a filibuster against the GOP's Continuing Resolution, thereby allowing it to pass without placing any limits on the wanton destruction of our government by Trump, Musk, and DOGE.

There were many reasons Indivisible was pushing our Senators to block this Continuing Resolution. A big one is that this CR unprecedentedly allows Trump and Musk to spend the money how they see fit. Generally, appropriations bills stipulate that the money is spent exactly how it is appropriated, and clean CRs make no significant changes to the previous budget bill. This was not the case with this bill. It will not fund the critical federal services that are being dismantled by DOGE. Instead, it funnels our tax money directly into the pockets of Trump and Musk. Essentially, it is an enabling act that funds the atrocities of the current administration.

The second reason is that Democrats must show a unified front against this administration. We cannot negotiate with authoritarianism. There is no good-faith compromise to be found here: the Trump administration is ignoring the rule of law, and will continue to do so. They are not going to cooperate with us; refusing to cooperate with them is the least our senators can do.

Senator Schumer failed to lead Democratic senators in opposition. Instead, he opposed the opposition. Filibustering the bill was the only tactic we had to force Republicans to place real limits on the dismantling of the federal government, stop unilateral attacks on vulnerable people, and end mass chaos and job loss caused by Trump and Musk. By advancing the bill to passage, Senator Schumer enabled this authoritarian administration.

Our senators (and most other Democratic senators) voted NO, and we’re thankful and proud that they stood their ground. Now they must hold their own weak leader to account. We are asking Chuck Schumer to step down as Minority Leader ([link removed]) , and we are asking our Senators to demand this as well.

Since the vote, Senator Schumer has attempted to explain his decision and launder his image. Yet he is unwilling to meet his constituents in person and even postponed a book tour due to theexpectation of protests ([link removed]) . We cannot abide a leader who not only messes up at a critical juncture, but also refuses to take responsibility for his actions.

Contact your senator and tell them: ([link removed]) Demand new Democratic leadership in the Senate.

** Shelter Stability Now: Stop Family Evictions in SF
------------------------------------------------------------
On March 10, 2025, San Francisco faced a critical situation when two migrant families with young children were nearly evicted from a Catholic charity-run homeless shelter due to a controversial 90-day shelter limit policy. This policy, reintroduced in November 2024, has put numerous vulnerable families at risk of homelessness. The affected families included a Honduran couple with two children in kindergarten and third grade and a single mother from Peru with a second-grader.

Despite Mayor Daniel Lurie's previous statement that families working with case managers would not face eviction, these families were initially denied extensions beyond the 90-day limit. The situation sparked protests and criticism from advocacy groups, school teachers, and community members, highlighting the urgent need for a more compassionate and sustainable approach to addressing homelessness in San Francisco.

While these families received a reprieve, many others face the same 90-day shelter limit policy. The Mayor and our Supervisors are implementing a policy that forces vulnerable families onto the streets, exacerbating San Francisco’s homelessness crisis. This misguided approach increases the number of unsheltered individuals in our city and exposes families to potential dangers and criminal activities.

Rather than addressing the root causes of homelessness, city officials are unfairly shifting blame onto these struggling families, ignoring the well-known scarcity of affordable housing in San Francisco. This shortsighted policy fails to acknowledge the complex challenges faced by homeless families and the severe lack of accessible housing options in our city.

Contact your Supervisor and the Mayor and tell them: ([link removed]) Stop family evictions in our city!

Faith in Action Bay Area is leading the effort to ask Supervisor Jackie Fielder (District 9) to sponsor a resolution asking the Mayor to immediately stop the eviction policy.

They are also looking for people to:
* Attend district meetings with the Recently Arrived Families Committee
* Accompany immigrant families in their immigration check-ins or hearings
* Support with English-Spanish translation
* Donate to support basic needs of immigrant families

If you are interested in signing on for any of these actions, please visit their action website ([link removed]) here.

** An accounting of Trump’s attacks on press freedom (so far) from the Media Accountability and Balance group
------------------------------------------------------------
Given the slew of attacks on the media ([link removed]) by the Trump administration since inauguration, one thing has become clear: We need to protect press freedom. Our media have the responsibility to cover the administration’s misdeeds fairly and accurately; they must also have the freedom to do so.

Our work also includes being vigilant against the banning of books covering race and LGBTQ issues. If you have been to one of our in-person meetings and want to stay informed on how we can support press freedom, join our Slack channel: #media-accountability.

** Want to help us do this work?
------------------------------------------------------------
We can help plug you in where your skills will do the most good to help resist this administration.

If you would like to join and do important work with us, we welcome you! Currently we are especially in need of volunteers to help with the following:

* Publishing our newsletter with Mailchimp, and helping update our website on Newsletter Night (Tuesdays at 5PM).
* Making short-form videos to help educate people on our topics in an accessible way.
* Tracking federal, state and local legislation and working with our state and local legislatures and Mayor Lurie.
* Organizing our protests and other in-person actions.

No experience is needed, we will train you and provide everything you need. If you would like to help us, please contact us at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) .
