View the Report REAL ESTATE RECAP AHC + Goodwill Project Receives $6 Million Our new construction development in partnership with Goodwill of Greater Washington has been awarded $6 million from Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development’s (DHCD) highly competitive Affordable and Special Needs Housing (ASNH) program. This funding strengthens our ability to take this project to the closing table — bringing us one step closer to building this community of opportunity with service-enriched affordable housing, onsite childcare, and a new Goodwill retail store and donation center. Presenting at NeighborWorks Institute Langston Stephens, AHC Real Estate Development Associate, recently attended the NeighborWorks Training Institute in Philadelphia, where he presented on the upcoming renovation at Lansdowne Gardens in Baltimore County. He discussed funding strategies and key aspects of the project, including how community solar could help lower utility bills for residents. NEWS NUGGETS AHC Program Alumni Give Back Two alumni of AHC’s education programs have returned as Program Assistants. In their roles, they offer academic and personal support to students. Read More Mocktails & Mingle Local leaders from the Ignite program with the Leadership Center of Arlington hosted a two-day networking event for students in our College & Career Readiness (CCR) program. On day one, students crafted elevator pitches, explored LinkedIn strategies, and learned key soft skills for interviewing and networking. On day two, students put everything into practice at the Mocktails & Mingle networking event. They had the opportunity to network with the Ignite leaders, take professional headshots, and enjoy food and mocktails. Celebrating Women Educators at AHC It’s Women’s History Month, and we’re honoring the women who are shaping future generations as part of this year’s “Moving Forward Together” theme. We’re proud to spotlight the incredible women educators who guide and inspire our young residents in AHC's programs. These dedicated staff build meaningful connections with students and families to empower and lift up communities. We’re grateful for this passionate, strong team of women! GET INVOLVED Volunteer Opportunities We’ve expanded our programming and need volunteers to help! Explore ongoing opportunities for our new teen and afterschool programs at the Serrano in Arlington and Greenspring Overlook in Baltimore. Every new resident deserves to feel at home. Help us by assembling welcome baskets. We're planning fun events like Family Bingo and a Bubbles & Balls Mom & Tot meet-up at The Westerly, our newest community in D.C., and need volunteer support. [email protected] for more information. Calling All Student Volunteers AHC will be holding fun, enriching, in-person summer camps for elementary school students. Volunteers will assist staff with indoor educational activities, snack time, outside play time, field trips, and pool days. Volunteers will read, play, and build relationships with students, and can develop and lead activities. Volunteers must be age 14+. College students and adult volunteers are welcome & appreciated.
