*MADISON, Wis.* – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invites the public to attend a youth fishing clinic in southeast Wisconsin on Saturday, April 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The first youth fishing clinic in southeast Wisconsin was held 40 years ago. Come out and celebrate the anniversary of fishing education in the region at one of nine parks in Milwaukee and Washington counties.

Youth ages 15 and under are invited to learn how to fish from local fishing club members who have been leading these clinics for generations. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Clinics begin every hour at 9 a.m., with the last clinic starting at 2 p.m. In addition to free beginner fishing lessons, the DNR has partnered with local clubs to organize fun activities like fish printing, casting games and prizes at nine parks in southeast Wisconsin.

Clinics will occur rain or shine, so participants are encouraged to dress for the weather. Fishing equipment is available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have it. Adults are also encouraged to inquire about joining a club to expand their knowledge and help with future clinics.

For more information about these events, contact club leaders at [email protected] or Laura Schmidt, DNR fisheries biologist, at [email protected] or 414-416-0591.
