Dear John: These are painful and traumatizing times. We see your heartbreak and outrage, and we feel them too. We mourn together for George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and the devastatingly long list of Black Americans killed before them.
Black Americans have been killed by sanctioned murder, by COVID-19, by homelessness, and so many impacts of the systemic racism that fills our nation like a disease. NPH’s mission is centered around making sure everyone has a safe, stable, affordable place to live and strong communities for all of us. Our vision is an equitable and diverse Bay Area where everyone, especially low-income communities and communities of color, have a home in a thriving community. We deepen our resolve for racial and housing justice as inextricably linked as we commit to continuing our work for change -- from advocating for antiracist policies and housing justice, to cultivating and supporting leaders of color in the affordable housing industry and movement. To all who are joining together to stand up, fight back, and demand justice. We see you. We hear you. We stand with you.
“I’ve watched as crowds of people -- Black people, White people, Brown people, Asian people, Gay people, Straight people, Trans people, First Nation people -- have taken to those streets to cry out against systemic racism. They recognize that what they saw may have happened to a Black man, but in fact, it happened to all of us.” -- Rev. Dr. William J. Barber, II
From all of us at NPH, We call for accountability in the murder of George Floyd and all before him. We call for justice and opportunity for all of our neighbors, Black, Indigenous, and People of Color. We call for solidarity and collective action.
