COVID-19 & Global Health Security: Preparing for the Unimaginable WIIS-UK Event
As the COVID-19 pandemic has been shedding light on extreme health-related risks, please join WIIS UK for a conversation with Dr Catherine Rhodes, in which we will explore the UK’s level of preparedness and reaction to the pandemic. With a look to the future, we will discuss how best to research and manage the risks associated to high-impact, low-probability global health events.
How well were the UK and the international community prepared for the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic? What lessons are already emerging from the current crisis? What other extreme health risks are we unaware of, or aware of but unprepared for? And how to prepare for such high-impact, low-probability events?
Join us for a conversation with Dr Catherine Rhodes, Executive Director of the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk (CSER) and Senior Research Associate with the Biosecurity Research Initiative at St Catharine's College, Cambridge, chaired by Chiara Libiseller (WIIS UK). |

New America - Call for Policy Essays!
New America has opened a two-month call for policy essays aimed at bringing new approaches, not even necessarily from inside the foreign/security policy field, to security challenges, broadly defined. We are hoping to get innovative, specific ideas from people who might not see themselves as insiders, or who would normally perceive that their ideas are too unusual to get an op-ed slot in a traditional publication.
