I was asked on MSNBC this week for my honest assessment of what elected Democrats are doing to fight back this week and if it was adequate to meet this threat.

I think it’s important that you hear an honest answer from me on this too, so here it goes.

I know a majority of people reading this were probably disappointed with most elected Democrats in the past few weeks. I heard, “People felt profoundly undefended.” And while it can be uncomfortable to say in Washington, I think that’s valid and fair criticism.

Despite my own best efforts to fight back, I know you understand that one person cannot single-handedly win a fight against Trump, Musk and a full Republican majority in Congress that refuses to exert an ounce of oversight.

Democrats aren’t in power, but we are not powerless. It took far too long for many of my colleagues to understand that we have to act like a real opposition party.

My fight was frankly lonely when the week started — but people like you were behind those of us trying, people like myself and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. We were trying to push out as much information and actions to the public as we could, and the response to our efforts has been loud and overwhelming. And what happened is our colleagues started taking note and realized that you were demanding they join us.

That’s why Senate Democrats held the floor for 30 hours. After tens of thousands of you added your voice to mine, a whole bunch of my Senate colleagues agreed with us that not a single Trump nominee should get a vote from Democrats to move forward while the Constitutional crisis persists. Democrats should not help Republicans in any way until they join us to do the job we were elected to do and put a check on Donald Trump and Elon Musk.

So here’s my plan: I am going to continue to make life as excruciatingly difficult as possible for Senate Republicans AND build as much public opposition — meaning online, through protest, every channel available — to what’s happening with Trump and his unelected billionaires stealing from our government.

I need you to join me in all of those efforts, and I need you to also keep the pressure on my colleagues that this is what you want to see from us. One way to do that is by sending a message with a small donation that you have my back here. So I am asking:
