Team, this Black History Month comes as our nation is confronting profound challenges.

From the Trump administration trying to end racial justice work throughout the federal government to the MAGA movement's continued attacks on civil rights movement accomplishments like the Voting Rights Act (VRA), we face a coordinated assault on decades of progress.

These aren't just attacks on programs and policies — they're attempts to erase the real story of America.

In state after state, we're seeing efforts to ban books about Black history, eliminate diversity initiatives in schools and workplaces, and make it harder for communities of color to have their voices heard at the ballot box.

The challenges we face today would be painfully familiar to civil rights leaders of the past. But their legacy teaches us that change is possible when we stand together against injustice.

This month, and every month, as we honor their courage and sacrifice, this movement will continue to carry forward their fight for a truly equitable America.

That includes working to uphold the VRA — the crown jewel of the Civil Rights Movement.

Right now, anti-democratic forces are trying to dismantle a key piece of the VRA to continue diluting Black voting power and are attacking Black opportunity districts in Alabama and Georgia.

Our affiliate, the National Redistricting Foundation, is pushing back in court to ensure fair representation and protect the VRA.

Fighting for racial justice includes working to ensure that Black Americans can make their voices heard in our democracy with fair, representative maps. And we are committed to that fight.
