Dear friend,

I want to bring your attention to EWG’s news initiative: The New Lede.

The New Lede is a nonprofit environmental news site with the goal of spotlighting underreported stories affecting the planet and public health.

Why did we launch The New Lede? In the mainstream media landscape, newsrooms are shrinking and commitment to environmental reporting is dwindling, particularly among regional and local newspapers. Too many people are unaware of the serious pollution issues their communities face.

The New Lede aims to bring objectivity to its reporting and consider competing points of view but will never shy away from seeking the truth about threats to our natural resources and human health.

The editorial team is led by longtime investigative journalist and author Carey Gillam. Her more than 30 years of experience includes 17 years as a senior correspondent for Reuters covering agriculture and its impacts on the environment.
