Friends, 

Two weeks ago, our team emailed Rep. Gregory Meeks’

office and formally challenged him to a debate.

Since then, Rep. Meeks has given us nothing but silence. In

the midst of massive civil unrest throughout the country against

police brutality, unprecedented unemployment, and a pandemic,

Rep. Meeks has decided that debating policy and ideas for

working families and communities of color is not important. 

At least that’s what I thought before I saw these

messages from his team. 

Let’s be clear, Rep. Meeks and his team are lying. I have

not, and will never run away from fighting for our values. The

idea that I’m avoiding debating him is false. It’s one thing to

avoid me, but to lie about my intentions is wrong. 

What’s even worse, is the idea that, because I haven't spent 22

years in Congress, I don’t have a record to debate. My record

and my experiences are a reflection of growing up in the 40

projects, of watching my family work their hardest to

survive, and of having the courage to stand up against the

political establishment. The same establishment that stifles

progressive change. 

For the past 22 years, Meeks has avoided being critiqued on the

fact that he accepts money from wall street and real estate

firms. He’s avoided being criticized for not caring about working

families. He’s avoided actually fighting for us, and now his team

is trying to slander not only the campaign, but the movement

we fight for.

That will not work for me!

Regardless, on Sunday we’re going to hold a debate

because our neighbors deserve one, with or without him. 

We are the only Congressional district in Queens

that did not have a debate!

The establishment has ignored us and now wants to undermine

everything we are fighting for. We re not going to let that

happen. We are going to win this election in 20 days! Help us

end the machine once and for all.

Sunday on June 7th at 7pm. We sent a letter to his office

and are waiting for him to confirm. We are the only district in

Queens that has yet to discuss our ideas. That needs to

change.
