Dear Members of the New Liberal Community,
The Center for New Liberalism's Steering Committee exists to represent CNL chapter and dues-paying members in the national organization's strategic planning and provide a voice and a forum for the direction of organization wide initiatives. This year, to help keep members informed and keep the national organization accountable, we've worked with the CNL team to put together an impact report for 2024. That impact report is at this end of this email, but I first want to highlight some of the best parts of 2024 for the Center for New Liberalism.
While CNL had a lot of good things to report in 2024, including five new chapters and our best attended New Liberal Action Summit yet, there's one number I'm really excited to share with everyone. In 2024, CNL welcomed 186 new dues-paying members — a 12% increase over 2023. In November in particular, CNL experienced its best month for new membership growth since July 2022.
While some 2024 elections in the US and abroad didn't always go the way we hoped, the Center for New Liberalism made some great strides. The third annual New Liberal Action Summit was a smashing success; chapters around the globe did all sorts of amazing and innovative things; and the CNL team was even able to bring some of the CNL Steering Committee to the DNC in Chicago.
In 2024, the Center for New Liberalism also transitioned member dues to start supporting the Center for New Liberalism's PAC to help raise funds to support New Liberal-aligned candidates. We're proud to report that all six candidates supported through member dues this year, including five in swing races, won their elections in November. These candidates include Lt. Gov Rachel Hunt of North Carolina, Rep. Don Davis (NC-01), Rep. Janelle Bynum (OR-05), Rep. Eugene Vindman (VA-07), Rep. George Whitesides (CA-27), and Rep. Jason Crow (CO-06).
There's clear excitement for and interest in CNL's mission right now. While it's going to take a lot of work from all of our members in the years ahead, we have a real opportunity to present a smarter, more pragmatic vision for the Democratic Party here in the US. Moreover, the fight against populism isn't isolated to one country, and our chapters around the world have this same opportunity right now to advance our shared values.
