John, here’s what happens when you elect pro-democracy justices to state supreme courts: They stand up to right-wing activists working to strip people of their constitutional freedoms.

Late last year, Wisconsin Supreme Court Justices Jill Karofsky, Rebecca Dallet, Janet Protasiewicz, and Ann Walsh Bradley pushed back on efforts to uphold a 175-year-old total ban on abortions:

* Justice Karofsky painted this legal effort as a sign of a “world gone mad.”
* Justice Dallet questioned why a policy enacted by white, property-owning men should take precedent over everything that’s happened since.

In the spring of 2023, the election of Janet Protasiewicz — endorsed by the NDRC — shifted the balance of the court, which could open the door to a common-sense ruling that protects reproductive freedom. This shows just how important our work is to bring attention and resources to often-overlooked state supreme court races.

John, can you help strengthen our work to elect Democracy Defenders in state supreme court races this year, and races in the future? Donate $30 or more to expand our fair maps victories in 2025 and beyond >> [[link removed]]

This is a big year for these races, John: On April 1, Wisconsinites will vote to elect a justice to replace Justice Walsh Bradley, who is retiring after 30 years on the court.

That means the pro-democracy majority on the court could swing the other way, putting power in map manipulators’ hands. This is our chance to protect the pro-democracy majority in the Wisconsin Supreme Court — and it’s a clear reminder that there is no off year for redistricting.

The NDRC has endorsed Judge Susan Crawford in this race. Judge Crawford is a Democracy Defender who has fought to protect voting rights and abortion access. Your support for her and for our fair maps work in 2025 will make a meaningful difference as we fight back, state by state, against Trump’s anti-democratic agenda.

Pitch in today — your gift of $30 or more will help elect Democracy Defenders in Wisconsin and beyond, push back on gerrymandering, and help fight for fair electoral maps. [[link removed]]

Thank you,
