** Bears Ears Resource Management Plan Finalized
------------------------------------------------------------
[link removed]

Greetings Bears Ears Community,

In our last update, we reflected on the incredible progress made toward protecting Bears Ears National Monument, including the final stages of the Resource Management Plan (RMP). We are excited to share that this long-awaited plan has now been officially published, marking a historic step in the effort to safeguard this sacred landscape.

With the signing of the Record of Decision in January, the RMP is now in effect, providing a long-term framework for the management of Bears Ears National Monument. Developed through years of collaboration between the five Tribes of the Bears Ears Commission, federal agencies, and local stakeholders, the plan prioritizes Tribal-informed stewardship, conservation, and sustainable land use, ensuring that Bears Ears remains protected for future generations.

With the RMP in place, Bears Ears will be managed using a balanced approach that prioritizes the protection of cultural and natural resources while allowing for responsible public access, recreation, and conservation efforts. The plan formally integrates Traditional Indigenous Knowledge alongside modern land management practices, ensuring that the deep connections and histories of the Tribes are respected in decision-making. The Bears Ears Commission played a key role in shaping this plan, reinforcing the importance of long-term cooperation between Tribal Nations, federal partners, and local stakeholders.

Tribal leadership in public lands management is widely supported. According to the 15th Annual State of the Rockies Project Conservation in the West Poll, 86% of Western voters support ensuring Native American Tribes have greater input in decisions about sacred or culturally significant areas within national public lands. According to a new poll commissioned by our partners at the Grand Canyon Trust and conducted by New Bridge Strategy, 89% of Utah voters believe it is very important for Tribes to have a strong role in managing their ancestral lands. Additionally, 80% of Utah voters think this administration should uphold the existing agreement with Tribes concerning Bears Ears, including 99% of Democrats, 84% of independents, and 74% of Republicans.

This milestone provides greater stability and certainty for Bears Ears, but ongoing engagement remains essential to upholding the integrity of the plan and the commitments made in it.

To keep our supporters informed about the latest developments, we’ve launched the Bears Ears Bulletin, the Coalition’s new blog, where we’ll share insights on key issues impacting Bears Ears.
