This past weekend, I spoke in Prince William County about police brutality and justice. There I made it clear that justice is the minimum we demand—the floor and not the ceiling. And that the only way we will make progress is by standing together. We need to vote, hold each other accountable, and ignite the change we need to see.
Throughout this campaign, I’ve asked you to stand with me in our efforts to unite and lead with compassion. Today, I’m asking you to support efforts like the Virginia Black Business Directory (VABBD) Protestor-Rally Defense Fund. The Virginia Black Business Directory is an online platform comprised of minority-owned businesses servicing the DC-Maryland-Virginia area. Their mission is to bridge the gap in wealth by connecting minority-owned businesses to consumers, creating networking initiatives, providing educational opportunities and promoting community collaboration.
With every fight for civil rights and equality comes legal retaliation. We've seen evidence of this time and time again throughout our communities. As Black leaders and community members are on the front line rallying for justice, there will be arrests, retaliation, and legal fees. In preparation for what is to come, the VABBD has created a legal defense initiative to ensure that aid can be provided to those who are unable to hire legal representation.
That’s why efforts like the VABBD Protestor-Rally Defense Fund are so important. Their mission, like mine, is to advocate for marginalized communities. Contribute to their important work today.
It’s our collective work to make sure we are protecting human dignity and upholding justice above all else. I hope to have your support not only in my campaign, but in our collective fight for justice and the progress that comes after. We must continue to lead with compassion through action.
