The Trump administration invoked an outdated law and deported hundreds of immigrants in direct violation of a court order.
This is alarming, John:
First, Donald Trump issued an executive order invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, an outdated and cruel law that allows the president to detain and deport people with little to no due process during wartime.
Then, a judge blocked the Trump administration from using this law to deport Venezuelan immigrants suspected of being gang members.
Now, Trump officials are ignoring the courts, claiming they know better, and openly blasting the judge’s decision. Border Czar Tom Homan said, “I don’t care what the judges think,” while the Justice Department told the judge his order “is not enforceable.”
No president or administration has the power to just ignore the courts and do whatever they want, John. These actions directly violate the Constitution.
