George Floyd should be alive today.

George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Oscar Grant, and so many others should be alive today.

The hard truth is that this country was built on enslaved African labor. And every day since, our institutions have furthered systemic racism. From affordable housing to unlivable wages to lack of health care, these public services have failed communities of color.

And we all know the truth that African Americans are more likely to be murdered by police and unless we stand up and demand justice — nothing will change.

I am in pain right now. I am grieving with my African American brothers and sisters as we needlessly lose yet another person in our community. But I am also fired up and ready to take action.

Now more than ever, we must use our collective power to stand up, demand accountability, and create change. I stand with the protestors across the country as we raise our voices. I hope you will too:
