John,
Elon Musk’s so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) claims to have saved taxpayers $105 billion. The problem? It’s a fraud. Independent analysis reveals that 92% of Musk’s claimed savings are either unverifiable or flat-out false. In reality, the only verifiable savings amount to $8.6 billion.[1]
Here’s what’s really happening: Musk’s DOGE Tracker claims savings by canceling contracts but inflates those savings by counting money that was never actually going to be spent. DOGE inflates its so-called “savings” by counting the highest possible payout amount on government contracts, money that was never actually allocated.
This misleading accounting trick allows Musk to claim billions in cuts that don’t really exist.
Rather than taking Musk at his word, let’s focus on real numbers. If billionaires’ income was taxed the same way as working families’ income, we could raise $557 billion over the next decade.[2] That’s where Congress should be looking, not at Musk’s phony “savings” that falsely justify slashing public services while billionaires keep getting richer by exploiting tax breaks.
We must stop the Trump administration from harming our communities with cuts, layoffs, and funding freezes that cause real harm but don’t save real money. Tell Congress: Stop relying on Musk’s misleading math and start making billionaires pay their fair share!
Musk’s bogus budget math isn’t just about misleading numbers, it’s about who pays the price for his rampage through our government. These so-called “savings” come at the cost of real people’s jobs, healthcare, housing, and education.
At the same time, billionaires like Musk continue to hoard untaxed wealth while pretending they’re making the government “efficient.”
Let’s be clear: The real problem isn’t wasteful spending, it’s a broken tax system that lets the ultra-rich avoid paying their fair share. Musk’s fortune has ballooned by $100 billion in a single year, yet thanks to loopholes his tax rate is far less than a nurse or teacher.
Instead of cutting essential services, Congress could fund our communities by ensuring billionaires pay their fair share. A Billionaire Income Tax would generate $557 billion, money that, instead of being hoarded by the wealthiest families in the U.S, could fund schools, infrastructure, healthcare, and more.
Elon Musk wants you to believe his numbers. But the real efficiency will come from making billionaires pay their fair share in taxes. Tell Congress to reject Elon Musk's DOGE scam and demand a Billionaire Income Tax!
Thank you for fighting back,
