Hi John,

Trump and Musk seem determined to bring a lawless philosophy to federal spending. Acting outside the bounds of our Constitution, they’ve attempted to wrest control of how taxpayer dollars are spent through their illegal and deeply harmful cuts across the federal government. They’ve reversed some cuts in Republican states and districts in exchange for total political loyalty— basically, a Protection Racket at federal scale. Everyone else gets left behind, particularly our most vulnerable communities. Check out the latest from Joe below to learn more, and please donate today to help us stay strong! [[link removed]]

Hi John,

Our Constitution has been amended, fought over, and debated for almost 250 years. It’s the source of constant argument in our politics, and differing interpretations of our founding document are very common. However, the Constitution is unambiguous when it comes to federal spending: it is the responsibility of Congress to allocate taxpayer dollars: the power of the purse is entirely within the domain of the legislative branch of government.

I’m fighting back against this dangerous power grab, but I need your help. Can you chip in $ today to help us keep up our momentum ahead of our end-of-quarter deadline later this month? Donald Trump and Elon Musk are attempting to rewrite the basic rules of our constitutional order through their reckless cuts throughout the federal government. Through their mass firings and impoundments of congressionally-authorized funds, the President and his “First Buddy” have boldly claimed that their administration, not Congress, should control how taxpayer money is spent. This is a dangerous precedent, and part of why I joined nearly all of my colleagues in voting “NO” on the Republican bill to continue business as usual in DC.

Let’s be clear: the policies of this administration are having a direct, negative impact on Eastern Connecticut families. From steep tariffs on the Canadian nickel that our shipbuilding industry depends on to cuts to our social safety net, the Trump/Musk agenda puts billionaires first, and everyone else at the back of the line. I won’t stand for it, and I appreciate anything you can chip in today to help me fight back. [[link removed]]

All the best,

Joe Courtney
