[ [link removed] ]Katie Porter for Governor

John,

We are short millions of homes in this country—with most estimates putting
the exact number at somewhere between 4 and 7 million. That’s keeping
homeownership out of reach for more and more Americans and forcing workers
to commute farther and farther to their jobs. It’s not sustainable.

To fix this supply crisis, government needs to make it cheaper and faster
to build all sorts of quality housing.

Instead, Trump’s harmful tariffs are moving us in the exact wrong
direction. Take a look at this headline from this week:

[ [link removed] ]CBS NEWS: Trump tariffs could add more than $9,000 to cost of a new
home, builders say

The economics aren’t that complicated: making construction more expensive
means that less housing is going to get built. This would supercharge our
nation’s housing shortage.

Families are counting on our government to take urgent action to bring
down housing costs. Their budgets are already being stretched thinner and
thinner from decades of underinvestment in housing.

A multi-million unit housing shortage is bad enough; Trump’s economic
policies are setting us even further back.

We need leaders who understand our housing challenges and have the
expertise and backbone to fight for the solutions we need.

As a consumer protection attorney prior to going to Congress, I studied
the housing market and sounded the alarm on the predatory practices that
ultimately led to the foreclosure crisis. As Governor, I’m going to be
laser-focused on bringing costs down for families, including tackling the
high cost of housing. Will you support my campaign with a donation today?
