With the blessing of the Senate Minority Leader, Republicans passed their government funding bill on Friday, narrowly averting a shutdown.

They chose to push through a partisan agenda that granted the President more power while stripping away essential protections and resources from everyday Americans.

Democrats were committed to keeping the government open, but Republicans refused to negotiate a bipartisan funding bill. Our solution was to pass a four-week continuing resolution to keep federal agencies running and bring all parties back to the negotiating table for a fair, balanced solution. This was the only reasonable path forward.

But with the Senate Minority Leader backing the Republicans' funding bill, any chance of meaningful negotiation was effectively shut down.

The only way to stand up to the President and Elon Musk—the unelected billionaire who's running this country—is to force Republicans to the table for real negotiations.

Democrats must be ready to fight for what matters. Despite our parties' division, I will continue to strongly oppose the reckless Republican agenda that puts families at risk, cripples the economy, and empowers our adversaries like Russia and China.

We must not allow Trump, Musk, and the Republicans to control the future of this country without a fight.
