The U.S. House of Representatives is observing a district work period this week. I am looking forward to meeting with Kansans and hearing the issues most pressing to you. For more information on what I'm working on this week, be sure to follow me on social media. I do not serve in Congress to be a caretaker in the slow demise of America— I serve to fight and work to make it stronger. That’s what I am doing while believing our brightest days are yet to come. Yours in service, Click below to follow me on social media. Mann.House.Gov Happy National Agriculture Day! In the Big First District, agriculture is our lifeblood. It isn’t just a business; it’s a way of life and the backbone of our state and our country. It's a special calling that many families in our district have answered and they understand full well the costs that come with abandoning that call. Today on National Agriculture Day, we celebrate those hardworking men and women who make up the agricultural supply chain. Thank you for your dedication to keeping America fueled, clothed, and fed. Keeping the Government Open and Supporting our Troops Last week, I supported a clean funding bill that keeps our government open through September 30. The resolution, passed in the House and Senate, reduces and freezes spending for the next six months, allows President Trump to continue identifying and uprooting wasteful, fraudulent, and abusive federal spending, provides funding for our nation’s veterans, secures our border, and funds our nation’s military. The funding bill also ensures President Trump can continue advancing the commonsense policies Americans elected him to restore, all without a single earmark or pork project that forces Kansans to pay for local initiatives they’ll never see. I am hopeful that Congress will return to regular order going forward and pass 12 individual appropriations bills to get our fiscal house back on track. Passing Government Funding Cutting President Biden's Endless Overregulation Nearly two years ago, the Supreme Court made it clear that President Biden’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) abused the Clean Water Act to enact regulatory chaos with its definition of the Waters of the United States (WOTUS). Last week, EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin announced that EPA would revise and redefine WOTUS, providing clarity to landowners, cutting unnecessary red tape, and ending the chaos the Biden Administration created. America’s farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers are the original conservationists of the land, and they need a simple, consistent definition of water that gives them certainty as they feed, fuel, and clothe the world. I applaud President Trump and Administrator Zeldin for their relentless efforts to remove handcuffs and protect and defend America’s landowners. This decision is a huge win for Kansas farmers, rural communities, and private landowners. Applauding WOTUS Decision Increasing Accountability of COVID Fraud Five years after the outbreak of COVID-19, there are still nearly 1,700 open investigations into unemployment insurance fraud claims by the U.S. Department of Justice, and more than 157,000 complaints to be investigated. That’s why I supported H.R. 1156, the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act. This bill will extend the statute of limitations for prosecuting fraudulent COVID-19 unemployment claims, allowing law enforcement to recover billons of stolen taxpayer dollars while holding criminals accountable. It is estimated that pandemic unemployment insurance fraud cost American taxpayers as much as $135 billion. By extending the statute of limitations for prosecuting pandemic fraud claims, criminals and bad actors who abused federal dollars will be held accountable for their actions. We cannot and should not allow criminals to go unpunished. Investigating COVID Fraud Fight President Biden's Farm Killer Tax Stepped-up basis is a longstanding provision within the tax code that protects Americans from being forced to pay capital gains taxes on inherited assets such as land, equipment, or buildings, allowing recipients of such inherited assets to adjust their cost basis to reflect their fair market value. For four years, the Biden-Harris Administration bent over backwards to try to eliminate stepped-up basis for agricultural producers and small business owners. That’s why I reintroduced legislation recognizing the importance of stepped-up basis. More than 98% of all American farms and 90% of American businesses are family-owned and operated. Eliminating stepped-up basis and imposing this farm killer tax will destroy the livelihoods of producers and small business owners in Kansas and across the country. Our farmers, ranchers, agricultural producers, and small business owners are the backbone of America, and Congress must support their efforts, not crush them with devastating capital gains taxes. I will always stand with small businesses and family farms and look forward to working with President Trump and his administration to protect their livelihoods. Supporting Family Farms Nominating Jedidiah Moody to the USAFA Each year, I have the honor of nominating select students from the Big First District to join the ranks of the best and brightest in our nation’s service academies. Last Wednesday, I had the privilege of notifying Jedidiah Moody of Chapman, Kansas of his appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. Jedidiah's leadership in the classroom, on the field, and in the community reflects the best of the Big First’s values and our proud tradition of leadership in our Armed Services. I am confident that Jedidiah will represent our state and serve our nation well at the Academy. Thank you, Jedidiah for your willingness to serve, protect, and defend our republic. Congratulations again on your prestigious appointment! 2025 Congressional Art Competition Each spring, my office sponsors a districtwide high school art competition to recognize the artistic talent in the Big First District. The winning artwork of our district's competition will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol. The exhibit in Washington, D.C. will include the winning artwork from all participating districts around the country. I am excited to announce that this year's theme for the competition is Kansas, the Land That I Love. For more information on the rules and requirements for the competition, please click below or visit my website. 2025 Art Competition Meetings in the Office Livestock Marketing Association The Big First District is one of the top cattle-producing congressional districts in the country. I met with the Livestock Marketing Association to discuss ways Congress can support producers, including securing USDA funding for electronic ID tags and advocating for policies that expand opportunities for livestock auction markets. The hardworking men and women in the livestock industry help drive our economy and keep rural communities thriving. Thank you, Livestock Marketing Association for all you do to empower Kansas ranchers as they feed the world. Cornerstone Classical School A strong education is the key component of attaining the American Dream. For almost ten years, Cornerstone Salina has offered families a Biblical-based education geared toward fostering individuals who have a love of learning. I enjoyed showing students and parents from Cornerstone around the U.S. Capitol last week and giving students a glimpse of what the legislative process is like in Washington, D.C. As a father of four children, I’m inspired by the work Cornerstone is doing in our community to educate the next generation and shape them into the future leaders of business, government, and education. I hope you all enjoyed your trip to Washington, D.C.! Americans for Prosperity Americans for Prosperity is a nonprofit that advocates for economic freedom, free markets, and limited government. I met with leaders of the Americans for Prosperity Kansas chapter to discuss ways to promote policies that support hardworking Kansans and their freedoms. We also discussed the importance of extending President Trump’s 2017 tax cuts and rolling back Biden-era regulations that have handcuffed everyday Americans. I appreciate AFP’s work in educating and empowering citizens to advocate for policies that strengthen our economy and expand opportunity. Thanks for stopping by.     Visiting Washington, D.C.?
