John, I’m back in the district this week after one of the most infuriating weeks I’ve ever experienced as a Congresswoman.
The House GOP majority passed a disgraceful, unconscionable, disgusting (I told you I was furious) budget resolution that cuts vital programs our families rely on, and the American people will suffer. On top of that, they handed even more power to the Trump administration to make unilateral (unconstitutional, illegal) spending decisions and cuts. House Democrats stood unified against this GOP budget, but still, I’m hearing a lot of anger and frustration back in my district this week, and believe me, I feel it too.
You know who isn’t hearing the frustration coming out of their districts? THE HOUSE GOP. You know why? Because they refuse to hold town halls and let voters air their feelings. They’re scared — and they should be.
I’m using every ounce of my power to protect Social Security, Medicaid, SNAP, our veterans, our jobs, and our rights, and I’m not afraid to show up and be held accountable for what the GOP has done in Congress. Yesterday, I participated in a town hall to answer questions and give my constituents a chance to be heard, as is their right.
People shared their stories and concerns about what the GOP’s cuts could do, what the Trump admin's unlawful actions to gut programs will mean for their families, and how we can do more to stand up to them.
I left the town hall with a deeper understanding of the tangible impacts you and others are feeling at home, at work, and in our community. I’m grateful for this time in the district and want to make sure to fully capitalize on opportunities to connect with folks.
I asked my team to create a form where you can communicate directly. Do you have a story, a question, a statement, or a concern about the GOP budget cuts or the Trump Administration? We want to hear it. Please take a moment to share them here.
I hope to hear from you,
Mary Gay
