Hi John,
We all need to be in solidarity with the Black community and all communities affected by racist, oppressive policing and abusive systems of power.
For years, our mission statement has emphasized that, “We reject the speciesism that enables the mass torture and killing of nonhuman animals and the blatant disregard for their home - our planet - AS WELL AS the unjust and oppressive institutions and ideologies that harm ALL animals." That absolutely includes humans.
Let's embody that statement!! We call for solidarity with the Black community. It’s up to all of us to challenge ALL oppression, human and nonhuman, in the ways that we can.
We have compiled a list of organizations we encourage people to donate to, petitions we encourage people to sign, and actions we encourage people to participate in. Please read that list here.
Upcoming events in response to what is going on:
Tonight, June 3rd at 8pm there is an action against police brutality and racism. We have put up an event page in solidarity to encourage DxE activists to attend if they can. Please note this action is not organized by DxE and carries legal risk.
This Sunday, June 7th from 5 to 6:30pm, we'll be having a community discussion on racial injustice. RSVP here to get the Zoom link.
At our weekly Saturday Morning Meetup, June 13th from 11am - 12:30pm we will be learning more about solidarity actions, racial justice and why it is so important. RSVP here to get the Zoom link.
In solidarity,
Kitty
