Today is the Democrat Medicaid Day of Action, and Kentucky Democrats are standing strong against Republican attacks on health care for the 1.4 million Kentuckians who depend on Medicaid and CHIP.
What's happening right now is alarming. Kentucky Republicans are pushing forward with dangerous policies that threaten health care access for our most vulnerable communities. These measures are part of a coordinated effort to dismantle the health care safety net that so many Kentucky families rely on.
This is just the beginning. Republicans in Washington are planning to cut $880 billion in Medicaid to fund $4.5 trillion in tax cuts for the wealthy.
Here's what Republican Medicaid cuts would mean for Kentucky:
* 46% of Kentucky children who rely on Medicaid or CHIP could lose coverage
* 44% of births in Kentucky covered by Medicaid would be at risk
* 326,000 Kentuckians with disabilities could face new barriers to care
* 68% of nursing home residents in Kentucky who depend on Medicaid could see disruptions
Kentucky's rural hospitals and health care providers would be devastated, threatening not just health care access but thousands of jobs in communities that can't afford to lose them.
