Donald Trump held a press conference last Friday at the Department of Justice and attacked CREW by name.
He called us “violent.” He called us “bad people.”
He even called us “scum.”
His ire against CREW is not new—we've spent years working for accountability in the courts, the press and with the public. But what is new is that he is now attacking our organization from the halls of the Department of Justice.
I want to be very clear, John: this kind of rhetoric is dangerous, but it is not unexpected. And it comes on the heels of a major court victory for CREW compelling DOGE to turn over records to the public.
If anything, Trump’s tirade against CREW shows that our tireless advocacy for transparency and accountability is working.
Contrary to Trump’s claims, we’re not “out to get” him, or anyone else. We’re out to make sure Americans have a democracy that is ethical, accountable and open.
Donald Trump will not intimidate us by making this political speech in front of the Justice Department seal.
