Dear John,
You may have heard that Oregon’s pro-abortion governor, Tina Kotek, signed [[link removed]] an official proclamation making March 10th “Abortion Provider Appreciation Day.”
We quickly published a press release responding to this appalling action, and even posted a video statement [[link removed]] to social media.
We were very clear:
There is absolutely nothing to celebrate about an industry that profits from taking advantage of vulnerable women and ending the lives of innocent human beings under the guise of “health care.”
And we weren’t the only ones to respond to this horrible declaration from our state government.
In an eloquent, direct, and thoroughly compassionate letter, Archbishop Alexander Sample (who leads the Catholic Archdiocese of Portland) reaffirmed [[link removed]] the sanctity and dignity of every human life, both born and unborn.
“The language of ‘rights’ and ‘freedom’ in these conversations sounds noble. But strip away the rhetoric, and what’s left? A world where the strong decide the fate of the weak… Where human worth is conditional - based on ability, autonomy, wantedness,” Archbishop Sample wrote. “A return to humanity’s oldest, darkest impulse: might makes right.”
In his letter, the archbishop encouraged Oregonians to reject this harsh worldview and instead “choose life. Not just biologically, but spiritually.”
“Choose to see reality as it truly is. To embrace the mystery, the beauty, the wonder of existence itself,” he said. “Because life - every life - is a gift. And a world that forgets that is a world that has lost its soul.”
Concluding, Sample said the call of Jesus is always to “[s]tep out of the lie and into the light.” He extended that offer of grace and redemption, noting that “the gospel is not about condemnation. It’s about invitation. Even for those who have celebrated abortion.”

I’m so thankful for Archbishop Sample’s strong advocacy on behalf of the most vulnerable, and the pro-life example he sets in his leadership and communication.

With our pro-life friends and allies like Archbishop Sample from all across Oregon, we will never stop speaking up for the unborn: even when the governor openly celebrates those who profit from ending their lives.
Thank you for being in this with us.
Because everyone deserves an advocate,
