“I just can’t sit and do nothing… I have to be involved.”

- Evelyn Reid Syphax -

From Evelyn Reid Syphax, to Dorothy Hamm boldly tackling the question “Why can’t I?”, to social champion and “mental-health-loving mother of three” Mary A. Marshall, trailblazing women have been shaping Arlington (and beyond) for generations.

In this new collection of stories, meet just a few of the women boldly carrying that spirit forward today and into the future.

An opportunity to be involved: Arlington Women Community Builders (AWCB)

In 2023, ACF convened a group of local "women on a mission" to talk about community engagement, leadership and charitable giving. We heard that women were interested in opportunities to develop a deeper understanding of community issues and that they enjoyed connecting with other women to share perspectives, learn together and identify opportunities for action and impact on the issues they care about.

The next AWCB event is scheduled for May 7th. E-mail Christy Cole if you would like to get involved!
