The Dismantle DEI Act Should be a Trump Legacy Law

Alongside other fellow Republicans, we held a press conference to call on Congress to take action and codify President Trump’s executive orders into law—starting with eliminating DEI initiatives across the federal government.

One of President Trump’s first executive orders in 2025 ended taxpayer-funded DEI programs that prioritize identity over merit. Now, with the Dismantle DEI Act, we’re working to make that order permanent for generations to come. This legislation ensures that federal hiring, contracting, and grant-making are based on skill, qualifications, and performance—not race, gender, or sexuality.

The American people have been clear: they want a government that rewards hard work and achievement, not immutable characteristics. It’s time to restore fairness and meritocracy across federal agencies and I’m honored to lead this charge in Congress with Missouri Senator Eric Schmitt on this.

Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act

We saw during COVID how the government exploited emergency powers to strip Americans of their freedoms – we cannot let them do that again and infringe on the 2nd Amendment Rights of Americans next. The Protecting the Right to Keep and Bear Arms Act blocks the federal government from exploiting national emergencies as a backdoor for unconstitutional gun control measures.

In June 2024, the Biden Administration’s U.S. Surgeon General declared firearm violence a “public health crisis”—a move designed to justify public carry bans, firearm confiscation, magazine limits, and a national gun registry. These policies target law-abiding Americans while failing to address the real issues affecting American communities..

With President Trump back in office, he issued a February 2025 executive order protecting gun rights, but Congress must now codify these protections to prevent future administrations from abusing emergency powers. Without this legislation, public health declarations will continue to be used as a tool for unconstitutional mandates and restrictions. Legislation is needed to safeguard Americans' Second Amendment rights before the next crisis is used as an excuse to strip them away.

Stamping Out Wasteful Spending with the Return to Sender Act

Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) and I are taking action to stop yet another wasteful government boondoggle. We introduced the Return to Sender Act to eliminate and reclaim $3 billion from the so-called Inflation Reduction Act—money that was supposed to modernize the U.S. Postal Service with an electric vehicle fleet but has instead led to ballooning costs and endless delays. Taxpayer dollars should serve the American people, not fund inefficient government experiments.

In 2022, The Biden administration announced plans to spend nearly $10 billion to purchase tens of thousands of Next Generation Delivery Vehicles for the U.S. Postal Service by 2028. While the initial order for 50,000 trucks was placed three years ago, fewer than 100 trucks have been delivered.

The Return to Sender Act is a critical step in correcting the Biden administration’s mismanagement of taxpayer funds. This will immediately terminate the reckless allocation of $3 billion for USPS electric vehicles—trucks that have proven to be defective, overpriced, and a waste of taxpayer dollars.
