Donald Trump loves to claim he's a champion of free speech—until it applies to the press holding him accountable. Now, his White House is seizing control over which news outlets can cover him up close, a direct attack on the First Amendment and a shocking break from over a century of tradition.
For all of Trump’s cries about "cancel culture," he has no problem silencing journalists who refuse to bend to his propaganda. His administration is barring the Associated Press from key presidential events simply because they won’t adopt his absurd demand to rename the Gulf of Mexico. And now, Trump is handpicking which outlets get access to the Oval Office and Air Force One, ensuring only loyalists are allowed in.
This is what authoritarianism looks like. A free press exists to hold power accountable—not to be controlled by it. Yet, Trump’s hypocrisy knows no bounds, and the corporate media is once again failing to sound the alarm.
If Trump gets away with this now, what’s next? Censorship of all critical media? Persecution of journalists who don’t fall in line? This is about more than politics—this is about the survival of democracy itself.
We cannot sit back and watch Trump dismantle the foundations of our country.
