Trump’s Department of Justice trying to replace judge who moved to block deportation flights
We know we're just two months into the hellscape of Trump's second term, and the phrase "constitutional crisis" has already been legitimately invoked several times, but make no mistake: the MAGA cult leader's latest, brazen attacks on the judiciary are testing the guardrails of democracy in ways we've not witnessed in modern history. Trump's goons at the Department of Justice have asked a federal appeals court in Washington, DC, to just remove District Court Judge James Boasberg from the bench over a deportation ruling they disliked, claiming Boasberg engaged in an "inappropriate exercise of jurisdiction." Judge Boasberg attempted to block Trump’s deportation flights carrying hundreds of people linked to the Venezuelan Tren de Aragua gang to El Salvador over the weekend, disputing the administration's incredibly flimsy invocation of the wartime Alien Enemies Act of 1798 and ordering planes already in the air to turn around. The Trump White House refused to obey, of course, and now want Boasberg, who yesterday ordered a fresh deadline for the administration to comply, simply removed from the bench. If Donald and his accomplices can just have judges they don't like kicked out of the courts, we really don't have much of a democracy left.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Democrats grapple with existential threat as party searches for its spine
We have a fundamental problem on the left. When we're in the majority we're not willing to fully exercise our power. When we're in the minority, even in instances when we do have leverage, we're not willing to use it. The simple question becomes, "Why should people vote to give you power if you're not going to wield it once you have it?" Brian Tyler Cohen discusses this past week's calamitous government funding fight, Chuck Schumer's feckless about-face, and how Democrats can learn from these early missteps in the age of Trump 2.0 and find something resembling a backbone. Roll the tape.

Earthjustice throws a wrench into Trump’s illegal drilling plans
Earthjustice: President Trump’s attempt to open up millions of miles of ocean to offshore oil drilling is suddenly in serious jeopardy after Earthjustice filed a lawsuit to stop him, representing ten major environmental organizations including Oceana and Greenpeace. Earthjustice’s legal team is in the trenches, fighting behind the scenes to protect our clean air, our clean water, and our sustainable future — and they won’t stop fighting until Trump’s illegal attacks on our climate have been shut down for good. Will you chip in to support their battles against the Trump admin?
Trump promises more "BEAUTIFUL" coal as he attacks environmental "lunatics"
Great news for asthma and other respiratory diseases! While coal currently accounts for just 15% of power generation in the United States (down from approximately 50% in 2000), the MAGA cult leader announced his intentions to reverse course and fire up new coal power plants post haste. Because as climate catastrophes mount and global temperatures continue to rise, what the world clearly needs now is more "BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN COAL" and skylines filled with soft, fluffy smog. Hey, if we just blot out the Sun altogether maybe things will actually start to cool down. Make America Gray Again!

Chuck Schumer postpones book tour stops amid shutdown vote backlash
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's very bad week just got a lot worse, as blowback from his piss-poor handling of last week's government funding showdown with Donald Trump and the Republican Party spilled into the streets, forcing the Democratic senator to cancel his upcoming tour to support his new book, "Antisemitism in America: A Warning." Progressives erupted in fury over his decision last week to relent and help Republicans pass a stopgap funding bill many Democrats rightly warned would hand Trump and Elon Musk even greater discretion to slash government programs and services. Schumer had said Senate Democrats faced a "Hobson’s choice": either vote for a "terrible" bill or shut down the government, which he argued — only at the 11th hour, mind you — would have been a far worse outcome for the party and the country. In other words, Chuck bluffed, then blinked. And, for now, at least, he's bailed.

Conor McGregor's White House remarks draw criticism from Irish leaders
Donald Trump celebrated St. Patrick's Day by coloring the White House fountain green (identity politics for me but not for thee!) and by inviting MMA fighter Conor McGregor, who was found guilty of raping a woman in a civil case, to the Oval Office for a photoshoot. It wouldn't be a Trump event without the guest of honor making horrendously racist remarks about immigration, which the notoriously slur-happy McGregor was eager to provide. He immediately triggered a chorus of condemnation from Irish leaders. Deputy Minister Simon Harris made it very clear that "Conor McGregor's remarks are wrong and do not reflect the spirit of St. Patrick's Day, or the views of the people of Ireland." Another public relations win for team MAGA!
Hundreds of Palestinians killed as Israel breaks ceasefire with airstrikes on Gaza
Israel launched a surprise wave of overnight strikes in Gaza early Tuesday, killing more than 410 people and injuring hundreds more, according to Gaza health officials, and raising the prospect of a full resumption of war after a nearly two-month ceasefire. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said the attacks targeted Hamas and were launched because the group was refusing to release more hostages captured in the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel. The Israeli strikes come hours after Israeli negotiators returned from a round of talks in Egypt aimed at reaching a new deal for releasing hostages and jumpstarting discussions on a permanent end of war. "If Hamas does not release all the hostages, the gates of hell will open in Gaza," Katz said in a statement. Shortly after, they did just that.

Elon Musk exposed in plot to rewrite corporate law to pad his wallet
Stop SB21: A Delaware judge blocked the outrageous $56 BILLION pay package that Elon tried to give himself — and now Elon is out for revenge. Musk's own attorneys wrote a piece of legislation, SB 21, that would create convenient carve-outs that would allow him and his billionaire cronies to essentially steal from the companies they control. Delaware Senate Democrats passed the bill despite this flagrant power grab, but the House still needs to vote next week. Will you stand for yet another instance of this unelected billionaire trying to buy his way into power?
Texas arrests first abortion provider since fall of Roe v. Wade
A Texas midwife and her colleague became the first known people to be arrested for performing abortions since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022, The New York Times reported Monday night. In a statement, Attorney General Ken Paxton said Maria Margarita Rojas — known as "Dr. Maria" — was operating several clinics near Houston. She was charged alongside Jose Ley, 29, with “illegal performance of an abortion,” which has been classified as a second degree felony since the state’s draconian ban on the procedures took effect in 2022. Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a statement shortly after, filled with coded language meant to demonize anyone seeking or providing reproductive healthcare and vowing — without a trace of irony — to prosecute anyone caught "endangering the lives of women."
Stephen Miller throws on-air tantrum after MSNBC analyst dares to question Trump
Donald's favorite white nationalist-turned-top political adviser absolutely lost it on live television yesterday over criticism leveled at Trump for invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to deport migrants to El Salvador. Fox News’ Martha MacCallum played footage of MSNBC legal analyst Andrew Weissmann describing Trump’s legally spurious move as possibly unconstitutional because the act was really intended to be used when the United States is actually at war. And with that Stephen Miller was off to the races. "Andrew Weissmann is an absolute moron. He is a moron, and he is a fool, and he’s a degenerate," Miller barked. For all their talk about liberals being snowflakes, MAGA skin is so thin it's damn-near translucent.
Military slices out web pages about WWII Native American code talkers to comply with Trump order to eradicate DEI
Ya know, it would be a lot easier to comply with Donald Trump's white-nationalist crusade to rid the federal government — and American history — of any mention of diversity, equity, and inclusion if we could all just agree that any meaningful achievement in our nation's history has been the result of straight, white men being straight, white, male, and awesome. Sure, Native American code talkers were critical to the country's victory in the Pacific Theater during WWII, but the real heroes were the white generals and civilian officials at the Pentagon ordering they be put into service, right? Right?
Project 2025 architect raves about Trump’s first two months back in office: "Way beyond my wildest dreams"
Hey, remember when Trump repeatedly claimed on the campaign trail that he knew nothing about Project 2025 and dismissed Democratic warnings that a second MAGA term would unleash an onslaught of extremist policies straight from the 900-page, right-wing, fever-dream manifesto as little more than delusional fearmongering? Yeah, no. They're implementing it, page by page.

Doom and doomer
What the fuck
Meanwhile, elsewhere
Hope...
