This message finds our country anything but well — so let’s suspend the pleasantries and acknowledge reality: we’re experiencing a constitutional crisis with a president who is acting like an absolute monarch.

While the Trump Administration is ignoring and violating court orders, Democratic lawmakers are pointing fingers at one another and failing to coalesce around a message (which would be a useful prelude to action) that meets this moment. And worse, the Republican majorities in the House and Senate have effectively castrated the legislative branch of government by giving up their constitutional duties as a check on the President.
From the Harris campaign to Bright America
Most of us saw this coming. And it’s why I served as Director of Republicans for Harris within the presidential campaign. If you told me when I started my career in Republican politics, some 25 years ago, that I’d be working to elect a Democrat, I’d have thought you were crazy!
But what that kid would have found even crazier, perhaps even impossible, is that his party would be the one to abandon its principles in favor of a populist cult of personality.
Maybe you can relate?
Either way, I know I’m not alone, because I had the privilege of a front row seat to so many Americans stepping forward with courage and conviction to stand up for democracy, our constitution, and the rule of law — even when it meant losing something evolution has hardwired us to value: the tribe.
I often remind those rooting for survival of democracy and the Constitution that we must play the game we’re in. That means asymmetrically countering anti-constitutional (they’ve blown past “unconstitutional” at this point) actions and focusing on the actions we can take, especially with neither party coming to the rescue.

The courts are the last federal check left — until at least 2026
Bright America is about action, and we work to enable the meaningful collective advocacy of our hundreds of thousands of members — which also means funding the robust legal challenges and litigation that the typical person can’t do on their own.
That’s why our movement is thrilled to fuel a major lawsuit by our strategic partner Campaign Legal Center (CLC) to put an end to Elon Musk’s illegal and unconstitutional takeover of federal government decisions. This critical legal battle to stop Musk — an unelected billionaire and President Trump’s biggest donor — from slashing federal programs, firing critical government employees, and deciding where taxpayer money goes is a fight for democracy, and we’re making sure it has the backing it needs.
