Vote scheduled for direct primary care (SB4) and student testing standards (AB1)
State Senate votes today on two Badger-backed bills
Legislation on direct primary care and the educational assessment program will be brought to the floor beginning at 12:30 p.m.
The Wisconsin State Senate will hold a floor session early this afternoon. The Badger Institute has advocated in support of two bills the chamber will consider — one regarding protections for the practice of direct primary care (SB4), and one regarding student testing standards (AB1).
Regulating direct primary care as if it were insurance would restrict providers’ flexibility to innovate and partly negate the cost and service advantages that stem from having less overhead for expenses such as the large buildings, infrastructure and administrative staff of hospitals.
The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction recently lowered proficiency test cut scores, detached our standards from National Assessment of Educational Progress proficiency levels, and modified reading and math tests in ways that render comparisons to previous testing data impossible.
