A Message from Gabe:
Greetings Rhode Islanders,
If you recently tuned into the news from Washington, you heard about the partisan Republican funding bill — also known as a continuing resolution — that gives Elon Musk and DOGE a blank check to further slash essential programs and would hurt hardworking Rhode Islanders.
CLICK HERE TO VIEW: Congressman Amo shares the stories of how the Trump administration policies are causing chaos and confusion for Rhode Islanders.
The Republican majority's extreme partisan policy proposal would force the evictions of more than 32,000 households, threaten the essential benefits of Social Security, and cut nutrition assistance for seniors. The Republican bill even turns its back on Veterans by failing to include nearly $23 billion in advanced funding for the Toxic Exposures Fund to care for Veterans exposed to burn pits and Agent Orange. I opposed this Republican bill.
Instead of supporting seniors, protecting our national security, and lowering costs for working Americans, Republicans' policies would evict people from their homes and transfer wealth from the middle class to billionaires.
I have been ready to vote on a bipartisan bill that invests in Rhode Island seniors, children, and veterans, while protecting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. I voted to do just that. Like many, I’m frustrated that we instead are facing additional chaos from Washington. I’ll keep focusing on those priorities that give everyone an opportunity to thrive.
Sincerely, |

President Trump and Elon Musk's policy efforts to dismantle the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will leave American consumers unprotected in the financial marketplace and increase the risk of seniors falling victim to fraud.
I led 26 Democrats in demanding answers on how this unconstitutional closure will help defend the American people.

I visited the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center in Newport to speak on my work in Congress to fight hunger, promoting health, and educating seniors.
If Republican policy plans succeed in slashing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program and Medicaid to give tax cuts billionaires, there will be a massive impact on places like the MLK Center that provide a lifeline to many of our neighbors.
Congress cannot let that happen.

As the son of a union nurse, I know firsthand the critical role unions play in increasing wages and rewarding hard working people.
While Elon Musk and DOGE continues to unconstitutionally fire thousands of federal workers, I joined the Labor Caucus as an original cosponsor of the bipartisan Protecting the Right to Organize Act to support worker rights and hold employers accountable. |

I was grateful to join our vibrant Ghanaian-American community to speak on my work in Congress to recognize their immense contributions to Rhode Island.
Despite what is going on across our country, it is still important to take time to celebrate the joy and strength of our shared diversity. |

As Trump's policies seek to dismantle the Department of Education, it is important that Congress stands up to protect the funding and support that Rhode Island students deserve. |

The Trump Administration is firing thousands of employees at the Department of Veterans Affairs and indiscriminately eliminating positions held by Veterans who make up about 30% of the federal workforce.
Our nation's heroes deserve our best. Thank you to Veterans of Foreign Wars Rhode Island for meeting with me to discuss how we can protect timely access to benefits and services for Veterans in Rhode Island. |

I welcomed students from the Lincoln School in Providence as they visited our nation’s Capital!
It is always a pleasure to discuss how I am working in Congress to ensure opportunities for every student in Rhode Island. |

Rhode Island Delegation Vows to Defend Medicaid from Republican Policy Cuts
Congressman Amo and the state delegation at Women & Infants Hospital call on Congress to defend Medicaid against ongoing Republican policies that would take away health insurance from millions of Americans.
Medicaid is a lifeline for more than 300,000 Rhode Islanders- including children, mothers and newborns, adults with disabilities, and nursing home residents. Cutting Medicaid will devastate vulnerable Rhode islanders, making it more difficult for them to access primary and preventative care. That is why I joined Senator Sheldon Whitehouse and Congressman Seth Magaziner to push back against Republican policies that would cut Medicaid.
Health care should not be a privilege—it is something everyone deserves. I am committed to defending Medicaid and fighting to keep healthcare accessible and affordable for all Rhode Islanders.
