** A-Level Results
------------------------------------------------------------

Another year may have passed since my schooling days but I still vividly remember the dread before exams. If you are a better student than I was, as I am sure many reading this are, you may be feeling optimistic and excited to showcase everything you have learnt. I am sure many students in Hastings and Rye are looking forward to their results after their exams, but I know how nervous the wait can be!

For the A-Level students in my constituency, that wait will be over. Later this week, our GCSE students will get their final results. I am pleased that so many of our students have already done well and I am hopeful that there are many more who will receive excellent results this week. While there is always hope for those of us who aren’t model students, doing well in your studies is the best way to get a good start in life. But as I often say, “Hard work beats raw talent.” If you are not a gifted individual, hard work can still get you ahead.

Sadly, however, some people will be disappointed with the results they have received and might not make the university of their choosing. Luckily, since I went to school, far more options have opened up and it’s not just about getting a university degree anymore.

Our Government has kickstarted and promoted a wide range of apprenticeships, where recent students can gain valuable real world experience in a field of their choosing by working for a business while learning the job and getting paid. I am pleased that businesses like Marshall Tufflex and 247 247 are taking full advantage of the talent on offer by providing apprenticeship programmes for our young people.

I hope those who have already received their results are pleased and wish all of our GCSE students the best of luck for Thursday!
Yours sincerely,
Amber Rudd MP
Hastings and Rye
