John, we need
to talk about Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Because the first few weeks of Trump’s second presidency have proven what
we knew to be true:
Trump can be bought and influenced by men with power and wealth. Flattery
itself goes a long way with Trump, and dictators are taking full advantage
of his greed and egotism.
Last time he was in the White House, Trump shamelessly cozied up to
Vladimir Putin and the Kremlin. He literally exchanged love letters with
the dictator of North Korea and has a warmer relationship with Kim Jong-un
than the Canadian Prime Minister. He even threatened to abandon our NATO
allies if there was an attack in Europe.
This time around, as our allies in Ukraine fight back against Russia,
Trump is once again siding with Putin.
He withdrew military aid from Ukraine and cut off intelligence sharing. He
publicly tried to belittle Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy — the
same president he tried to extort in his first term by withholding
military support in exchange for an investigation of Biden, which led to
his first impeachment. He insists that Vladimir Putin is committed to
peace — even though Putin launched this war, and is a bloodthirsty
dictator.
As Axios put it, these are “moves that could have been plucked from
Vladimir Putin’s personal wishlist.”

Trump's decision to suspend all military aid to Ukraine is the latest in a
string of moves that could have been plucked from Vladimir Putin's
personal wishlist.
John, Donald
Trump’s abandonment of Ukraine is a dangerous signal to countries
worldwide. Democratic countries are terrified of what’s to come as Trump
abandons our allies in favor of oligarchs.
I have stood up against authoritarianism and in support of democracy for
my entire career. From my chairmanship of the House Intelligence Committee
to leading Trump’s impeachment, to serving on the January 6 Select
Committee, I have always put my oath of office and the Constitution first.
Always.
I’m continuing this vital work to protect our democracy from the U.S.
Senate. [ [link removed] ]Please chip in a few dollars to help me keep up these efforts
to defend democracy, both at home and abroad.
