Hey John,

We need to talk about neoprene wetsuits.

The production of this toxic material, which many of us rely upon to get our ocean fix, has fatal consequences. And yet the wetsuit industry remains addicted to it.

The Big Sea is an award-winning film that exposes the dirty truth behind this material. It’s shocking, it’s uncomfortable, but it’s also hopeful.

We’re joining The Big Sea for a UK tour that’s set to shake the system. And while surfing is the poster boy for neoprene, this message rings true for the wider watersports industry too.

Learn more in the video below.

Why is this film important?

Most of us have bought a neoprene wetsuit at some point in our lives. But few of us know where this material actually comes from.

The Big Sea takes us right there— to Cancer Alley. Once a slave plantation, this region along the Mississippi River is where chloroprene (the key chemical in neoprene) is produced for the majority of wetsuit manufacturers.

The local community is suffering from toxic pollution levels 50 times higher than the US national average. Cancer rates are soaring.

In the film, you’ll hear from Cancer Alley insiders, along with activists and scientists who are fighting for cleaner alternatives and environmental justice.
