Volume 17, Issue 11

“Think about what we are talking about here. I mean, we’re sitting around as the world is sort of accepting that it’s normal and okay for you to go into a place, kidnap babies, kidnap teenagers, kidnap people that have nothing to do with any wars, that are not soldiers, that are not anything, and taking them and putting them in tunnels for almost a year and a half. And we’re acting like this is a normal exchange, this is a normal thing that happens. This is an outrage. So, they should all be released. So, I’m not going to comment on what we’re going to accept or not accept other than all of us, the whole world, should continue to say that what Hamas has done is outrageous. It’s ridiculous. It’s sick. It’s disgusting. It should never have happened, and we shouldn’t accept it as normal, as a normal negotiation. We’re just dealing with some savages. That’s it. These are bad people, terrible people, and we need to treat them as such.”

----Secretary of State Marco Rubio, March 14, 2025, Charlevoix, Canada

The Middle East Shake Up Since the Inauguration of President Donald Trump

Date: Tuesday, March 18, 2025 (Please note change of date!)

Time: 12 Noon, Eastern Time, 6 p.m. Jerusalem Time

Since the inauguration of President Donald Trump, spheres of influence within the Middle East have changed radically. What sort of influence does Iran still have within the Middle East? How important is Turkey’s role? What is taking place in Qatar, in Iraq, in Syria, in Lebanon and in Judea and Samaria/the West Bank?

How is the Trump plan regarding Gaza being played out in the Muslim and Arab world? How is it being played out in the foreign policy establishment?

How are the American polls reflecting their attitudes towards Hamas, towards Palestinians, and towards Iran’s nuclear program? And all importantly: 17 months of warfare, how are the Israelis and how is the IDF holding up?

About our Speaker: Dr. Eric Mandel is the Director of MEPIN, the Middle East Political Information Network, the Senior Security Editor for the Jerusalem Report, and a regular contributor to The Hill and the Jerusalem Post. He regularly briefs members of Congress, their foreign policy aides, and the State Department. He is also the Director of Mandel Strategies, a consulting and advising firm for business and government officials in the Middle East.

Since Oct 7, Dr. Mandel has been on the frontlines with the IDF six times and was a firsthand witness to the massacre on Oct 7 in Sderot.

Dr. Mandel regularly meets with Israeli intelligence, defense, and political leaders in and out of government. Since October, he has spoken to twelve universities about the Middle East and anti-Semitism on American college campuses. For ten years, he was the chair and co-chair of StandWithUs in the Northeast, an international organization dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism.

He is a regular analyst on i24TV and has been published in National Interest, JNS, Must Reads-Foundation for Democracies, RealClearWorld, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, National Cyber Security News, Media Line, YNET, SRN, MSN, the Forward, Rudow (Iraq), the NY Sun, Moment Magazine, the Times of Israel, Jewish Week, Kurdistan24, IsraelNationalNews, JTA, Algemeiner, Israel Unwired, WorldJewishNews, Israel Hayom, Thinc.
