I’ve spoken with No Kid Hungry partners across the country who continue to go above and beyond to make sure millions of kids have the meals they need, including during the summer.

Candy Biehle, a child nutrition director at a school district in rural Texas, shared how meaningful summer meals are when school is out and parents are working. In fact, she was a fierce advocate for legislation that allows schools and nonprofits in rural communities to offer flexible meal delivery and pick-up services, instead of requiring children to travel to the sites where the meals are served.

“The children who are first in line every single day — they’re hungry,” said Candy.

She recalled one time when she pulled up to a food distribution site with her team to find an 8-year-old boy who had climbed a tree to wait for them.

“He was mad — not at us, but because he was so hungry,” she said.

Another time, Candy was distributing grab-and-go meals, and a young boy said to Candy, “I just heard about this free food you’re giving out, and I really need it.” She was able to give him a four-day supply of meals.

Right now, we’re helping teams across the country prepare for the critical summer months, which are the hungriest days of the year for kids who don’t have access to school meals. Will you give $25 or more now, so we can help more children get the nutritious food they need?

Gary Bye remembers volunteering at his local food bank in Washington when a little girl approached him to say “thank you for bringing me lunch. My mom's gone all day, and I get so hungry.”

It was this moment that led Gary to leave his 25-year career and spend the rest of his life making an impact for kids in need of extra support in his community. He and his team are preparing for the summer right now — and he is grateful to supporters like you who make his work possible.

“Your support makes a difference in our organization, and I mean, literally, we were able to triple the number of meals that we gave out to hungry kids this past summer,” he said.

John, every day, your support helps us take the steps to fulfill our mission to end childhood hunger. But right now, your support is especially urgent as we prepare for an influx of kids facing the long days of summer without the nourishment they need. Every $5 you can give right now can help community leaders like Candy and Gary provide 50 more meals to kids, so please: If you can, make a gift of $25 or more now to help provide 250 meals this summer and beyond to help more families and children at risk of hunger.

Thank you so much for everything you do to help kids spend their days free of hunger.
