Next week John, Chancellor Rachel Reeves will announce the government’s spring budget.  She could choose to tax extreme wealth and invest in public services - or double down on cuts to welfare that will wreak harm and suffering on millions - with health and disability-related benefits in the firing line.   We can’t stay silent. Expect speeches, music, and a good atmosphere; friends, family, and pets welcome!  Inequality is soaring, the climate is collapsing, and public services are at breaking point. We need huge public investment to fix these crises - yet time and again, we’re told there’s “not enough money”. Meanwhile, the obscene wealth of the super-rich grows, largely untaxed.  But the money is there. A windfall tax on banks could bring in almost £15 billion - that’s more than double the £6 billion in cuts being floated by the government.
