Friends, I have officially filed legislation to un-do President Trump’s disastrous and wildly unpopular tariffs on Canadian goods.
Our legislation works by terminating the “emergency” that Trump declared on February 1st in order to launch his trade war with Canada — once we do that, we will have successfully eliminated the tariffs on Canadian imports that resulted from the declaration.
Americans have made it unmistakably clear that they do not support Trump’s reckless trade war and these tariffs on Canada — so it is incumbent on those who represent the American people in Congress to take action!
Virginians and Americans all across the country want lower prices, not higher ones. They want economic growth, not recession. They want stability, not chaos.
But Trump’s senseless taxes are playing fast and loose with the American economy at the worst possible time.
When we bring this legislation to the Senate floor, I look forward to giving each of my GOP colleagues the opportunity to publicly answer one key question: Are you willing to put our economy above Trump’s worst impulses?
