Black and brown communities are living in constant fear. They can’t interact with law enforcement officials without the fear of losing their life. What kind of a world do we live in when we have to teach our children to survive police interactions before they learn to tie their shoes?

Let me be clear -- We need to recognize that racism still exists in our country. And we must actively seek systemic change where people’s lives are valued, respected and protected -- regardless of the color of their skin, country of origin, or zip code.

We must honor George Floyd’s life by fighting for justice every single day. This movement is an opportunity for us to tell our nation: when our Black brothers and sisters are in pain, we are in pain -- and when they fight to make black lives matter -- we will be right beside them.
