Dear John,

Today on St. Patrick’s Day, we remember generations of immigrants, like my Irish grandparents, and perhaps your family, who got a new chance in America.

Together, we can give that same chance to new immigrants. Every new monthly gift to the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) during March will help unlock the $50,000 challenge grant.

Thank you for considering becoming one of the 50 new monthly donors.

Let’s pay it forward!

Thanks a million and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Gratefully,

Sheila O’Brien
Retired Judge, Illinois Appellate Court

P.S. You can start your monthly gift from your donor advised fund. If you do, please reply to this email so we can count your gift towards the challenge grant.

Subject: Will you be one of the 50 that unlocks $50,000 for NIJC?

Dear John,

As a retired judge of the Illinois Appellate Court and a longtime supporter of the National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC), I’ve spent my career upholding justice. I believe in fairness, due process, and the power of opportunity. That’s why I’m personally stepping up with a challenge:

For every person who becomes a monthly donor by March 31, I will donate $1,000—up to a total of $50,000—to fuel NIJC’s life-changing work. That means your commitment unlocks even more support for immigrants and people seeking asylum.

Will you be one of the 50?

Your monthly gift—whether $10, $25, $100 or more—will provide critical legal support to immigrants and people seeking asylum, ensuring they have a fair chance to seek safety and build a future.

Around St. Patrick’s Day, I remember my Irish immigrant grandparents—Patrick, Ellen, Brigid, and Timothy— who arrived in America alone when they were just about 15 years old. No money. No education. They worked as ditch diggers and maids, and they taught us to love and serve this country.

America gave my grandparents a chance. Today, NIJC is fighting to give that same chance to others—but NIJC can’t do it without us.

Your support ensures that chance isn’t a thing of the past. Will you join me?

With much gratitude,
