2026 will be a monumental year in Michigan.
Our senior senator, Gary Peters, announced recently that he won’t seek re-election. And our Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, has served a maximum of 2 terms.
To put a finer point on it, 2026 will be the first time in 110 years that Michigan has open races for both governor and U.S. Senate at the same time.
Those two races alone would make 2026 a high-stakes year – BUT THAT’S JUST THE START.
Michigan will also have an open seat race for Secretary of State and Attorney General. We’ll have a handful of highly-competitive U.S. Senate races. And our entire state House and Senate are on the ballot, both with razor-thin margins for control.
This is a real defining moment for Michigan, where we’ll select the next generation of leaders for our state.
It also – amazingly – means that when all is said and done after the next elections, I’ll be the senior-most statewide elected official in Michigan.
That’s why even though I’m not on the ballot in 2026, it’s an all-hands-on-deck moment, so I’ll be working as hard as ever, hitting the campaign trail to elect principled, pragmatic, capable leaders for our state.
