Too many families are concerned about rising crime, repeat offenders, and neighborhood safety. Prosecutors and law enforcement need the tools, staffing, and support to hold criminals accountable and keep violent offenders off the streets. Andrew remains committed to ensuring Long Island remains a safe place to live, work, and raise a family. WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Recognizing a Community Leader Debra Sterling Walters has dedicated her career to community advocacy, violence prevention, and criminal justice reform. From leading the SNUG Violence Prevention Project to her work with the Legal Aid Society of Suffolk County, she has been a tireless advocate for public safety and victim support. In recognition of her impact, Debra was named a Black History Month Community Leader. To honor her contributions, Andrew was proud to provide her with a Congressional Certificate of Recognition for her outstanding service to Suffolk County. Suffolk County Rolls Out Initiative To Combat Human Trafficking This week, Suffolk County Executive Ed Romaine announced Operation Safe & Lasting Return, an initiative that creates an unprecedented level of collaboration among law enforcement, community partners and government agencies to provide the safe and lasting return for Suffolk County’s missing, exploited or high-risk children to their homes and communities. Andrew applauded this effort, saying in a statement, “Human traffickers exploit the most vulnerable among us - using coercion, violence, and deception to rob victims of their freedom and dignity. Suffolk County has made great strides in recent years to take down these predators and secure justice for victims. This new initiative reflects our county’s commitment to combating human trafficking and keeping our children safe.” CASEWORK HIGHLIGHT: Resolving Passport Issue This week, Andrew’s office assisted a constituent facing a last-minute travel emergency. Just a day before her family’s scheduled flight, she realized her daughter’s passport had expired. Thanks to quick action from Andrew’s casework team, an in-person passport appointment was secured in NYC for the following morning and the family made their flight. Andrew knows how frustrating dealing with bureaucracy can be. That is why he has an entire team dedicated to helping constituents get what they need from the government. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Leads Effort To Grow Local Health Care Workforce This week, Andrew introduced the Health Care Workforce Innovation Act, a bill aimed at expanding the workforce pipeline for community health centers (CHCs). This legislation would strengthen CHCs’ ability to train and retain qualified medical professionals, ensuring continued access to quality care for patients. In recognition of his leadership, Andrew was honored with the Distinguished Community Health Center Advocate Award from the National Association of Community Health Centers and Sun River Health, which operates nearly a dozen centers on Long Island. Community health centers are on the front lines of providing essential care. Andrew is proud to lead the fight to expand training opportunities and ensure CHCs have the workforce needed to serve communities across NY-02. House Passes 9/11 Memorial and Museum Act This week, the House passed the 9/11 Memorial and Museum Act, legislation Andrew helped introduce to provide funding for the operation, security, and maintenance of the National 9/11 Memorial and Museum at the World Trade Center. This bill ensures that the sacrifices and stories of 9/11 will be preserved for future generations, honoring the victims and commemorating the events of that tragic day. Andrew remains committed to keeping our promise to Never Forget. Andrew Pushes to Strengthen Cyber Education Opportunities With half a million open cybersecurity jobs nationwide, expanding cyber education opportunities and engaging students early is more important than ever. This week, Andrew participated in a Homeland Security Committee hearing titled “Preparing the Pipeline: Examining the State of America’s Cyber Workforce.” The discussion focused on the challenges and solutions to strengthening the nation’s cybersecurity talent pool and ensuring a skilled workforce to protect our critical infrastructure. Andrew Votes to Combat Fentanyl Crisis This week, Andrew voted for H.R. 27, the HALT Fentanyl Act, legislation aimed at cracking down on the deadly fentanyl epidemic by ensuring law enforcement has the necessary tools to keep these dangerous substances off our streets. Fentanyl is driving the overdose crisis, devastating families and communities, including here on Long Island. This bill strengthens efforts to combat illicit fentanyl trafficking and enhances public safety. Andrew remains committed to protecting Long Island families and holding traffickers accountable.
