of George Floyd!>>
PFAW Member,
As the nation continues grappling with the murder of George Floyd, the
calls for justice and demands to address systemic racism grow louder.
One next step that Minnesota law enforcement officials should take right
now is to arrest and charge the other three police officers involved in
George Floyd’s murder.
Four days following the murder of Georg Floyd’s death and the ensuing
public outrage, Derek Chauvin, the now former police officer who knelt on
George Floyd’s neck, was arrested and charged with murder.
But the inaction of the other three Minneapolis cops who watched Chauvin
murder George Floyd and did nothing to stop it was not just cowardly, it
was criminal.
[ [link removed] ]Join us in demanding that the other three remaining officers involved
in George Floyd’s murder be charged>>
Now that Minnesota’s Attorney General, former U.S. Representative Keith
Ellison, has been assigned as a special prosecutor in the case by the
state’s governor, there is a greater reason to hope that justice might be
served for those involved in George Floyd’s murder. Attorney General
Ellison has been a strong ally on civil rights issues and we hope that his
actions will include a close examination of the charges brought against
Derek Chauvin and charging the remaining three officers involved.
Protests across the nation are not only illustrating the outrage at the
latest example of institutionalized racial violence in our country. They
reflect the despair of communities whose mere existence has been deemed
suspect and undeserving by racist systems and structures that have been
allowed to stand in this country for centuries and continue to this day.
The continuum of racial violence and trauma, particularly against Black
people and communities, is as stubbornly persistent as any trend in
American history. It seems indestructible, and that can be psychologically
and emotionally crushing to so many of us – especially in the Black
community.
We cannot allow this most recent series of racist murders of Black
Americans (including Mr. Floyd, Breonna Taylor in Louisville, and Ahmaud
Arbery in Atlanta) to be just the latest chapter in a story that has no
end. And true healing and progress must begin with accountability for
those responsible for George Floyd’s death.
[ [link removed] ]Please join us in calling for justice for George Floyd>>
While George Floyd’s murder highlights the deep roots of white supremacy
and anti-Black racism that permeate our society, together we can begin
dismantling the systems of oppression and building a country that values
the lives, contributions, and the humanity of all communities – the real
American Way.
Thank you for being part of this fight.
In solidarity,
– PFAW
