Just 24 hours after our Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin tweeted this, it became clear from multiple reports that Donald Trump is moving toward abolishing the Department of Education:

Does Governor Glenn Youngkin, who has aligned himself with Donald Trump and his dangerous agenda, seriously think that Donald Trump is strengthening our schools?

Let’s be clear: getting rid of the Department of Education would be detrimental to Virginia’s public education system. Federal funding for education would be slashed, and rural school districts would lose vital resources for teachers, students, and special education programs.

This is going to hurt every classroom in our Commonwealth, every parent, every student, and every teacher who relies on strong public schools to prepare the next generation for success. It’s like taking a wrecking ball to Virginia’s public schools and leaving our educators to deal with the clean up. I’ve always worked to protect and improve our schools, and your support can help us make sure Virginia remains a place where every child has access to the quality education they deserve—regardless of their background or zip code.
