Session 2025: UPDATE
Greetings from Richmond!
We are now in the period of time that many of us refer to as the second half of the Legislative Session. Wednesday, February 5th, was Crossover. This is the day by which all work on bills must be completed in their house of origin (except for the budget). From this point forward, the Senate will only be hearing House bills, and vice versa. A total of 2,481 bills were introduced this year; 630 of those introduced passed out of the Senate and 895 passed out of the House. Many of those are companion bills, meaning each chamber has already acted on the exact same measure. This speeds the process up a bit, but now we must complete action on all 895 bills over the next 2 weeks.
